Welcome to Greece

You will find various landscapes, abundant natural land areas, bays, ponds, and a vast amount of wildlife. This is Greece: a Town located in the northwest of the City of Rochester in New York, with the largest population of Monroe County, and a place where you will have an amazing living experience.

Our Town was established in 1822; a time when Americans began looking for a unique identity that distinguished us from England styles. Ancient and modern Greece became an inspiration for building our houses. The styles that were built back then were mainly Greek Revival Style, very popular from around 1820 to 1860.

The primary characteristics of this style are porches, columns or pilasters, pedimented gables, and bold, simple lines or moldings. All of this in symmetrical shapes. The construction materials could be from wooden clapboards to brick or cobblestone. These styles remain still today; nowadays, combined with other architectural styles such as modern buildings, federal style houses, Italianate revival, Queen Anne Style, and more.

Greece has a privileged location with a large expanse of undeveloped land. And, are also more than 8 miles of shoreline along Lake Ontario. Another benefit of our town is the easy access to the City of Rochester and the surrounding towns in the Rochester metropolitan area. Greece also offers you weather patterns of great seasonal contrast like cold snowy winters, cool rainy springs, hot summers, and long rainy autumns, which are also characteristic of the climate of Western New York.

If you are looking for a place to move, start over or invest, maybe you should get to know Greece, where home appreciation is coming up by 18.5% in the last 12 months, according to Best Places to Live, the web that also states that compared to the rest of the country, Greece’s cost of living is 12.9% lower than the U.S. average.

Our town has great management of green areas and an even better Forestry Plan. Each year we plant approximately 300 new trees. Because of this successful implementation, Greece was designated a Tree City by Community Awards. Also, in 2003 the town was awarded the Outstanding Planning Award, in the Planning Implementation category for the Town’s Open Space Acquisition Program.

Living here you will get access to plenty of activities and terrific places to visit. The RPP Sold Team wants to share with you its top five favorites:

  • Greece Canal Park: This 577-acre park is ideal for hiking, bird watching, and cross-country skiing during the winter. There are so many views and open spaces and who doesn’t love a little bit of nature?  The park also has a softball diamond, soccer field,  tennis/pickleball courts, & an off-leash dog park so your four-legged friends can enjoy it too!
  • Oriens Cafe: “Oriens Cafe is not your usual cafe. It’s a unique and upscale cafe full of delicious Sicilian pastries, cookies, and the best Gelato in town all under the same roof. Plus a gourmet restaurant where you will be entertained by a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.”
  • Henpeck Park: A 4-acre waterfront park located on the Erie Canal. Owned by the NYS Canal Corporation, this popular park is set along the popular Canalway Trail. Historical markers located along the trail describe Henpeck as the Port of South Greece, boasting a grocery store, post office, schoolhouse, and more. A bustling stop along the Erie Canal, the Town of Greece chose to memorialize this historic port by transforming it into a park.
  • Greece Historical Society & Museum: The mission of the Greece Historical Society is to discover, research, and preserve the history of the Town of Greece and to share that history with its residents and the local community through public programs, publications, museum exhibits, and accessibility to its archives and artifacts.
  • Greece Public Library: Located at 2 Vince Tofany Blvd. Greece, NY 14612 is a place where you can enjoy good reading and other services specifically made for adults, teenagers, children, and more. You can apply for a library card or get an online subscription.
Are you into these house styles and would like to see them with your own eyes? We will be more than happy to show you the available houses.
